What happened in Las Vegas - Part 4

Hola readers!  Here at last is the final installment of my adventures in Las Vegas.  (Catch up reading on part 1, part 2, and part 3 here.)

Sunday

Muffy and Cece woke up early to run errands -- Muffy to buy tickets to Cirque for that night, and Cece was in search of good, strong coffee. I would have gone with Muffy to keep her company, but something disgusting happened to my feet in the middle of the night and just shuffling to the bathroom felt like walking on knives. I didn't tell Muffy, but the sheets near the bottom of the bed looked like something out of CSI. So I stayed in bed and kept sleeping, enjoying having the whole bed and all the pillows to myself. When I woke up again, Muffy was there with breakfast in bed! I had a delicious muffin and coffee from the Paris hotel. Isn't she the best?

Didi, Gigi and Lulu left early that morning on a day trip to Red Rock Canyon. (I didn't go because I've seen lots of this same sort of landscape from trips around Arizona. And also because I just don't give a sh*t about scenery or nature.)

The weather on Sunday was a little cooler, and it was extremely windy. Nonetheless, I was determined to hit the pool and not waste our last day in the sun. I headed down to the pool with my book alone, since Muffy and Cece wanted to do a quick trip to the mall.  It was lovely in the sun, but to keep warm I had to wear my sarong as a shmata and wrap a beach towel around my legs.  Still, it was peaceful and lovely.

When Muffy got back we had a late lunch at the Tropical Breeze Cafe in the Flamingo hotel. I had eggs and toast for lunch, and Muffy had quesedillas -- I don't think she liked hers very much because she kept eyeing my homefries.

After lunch, back to the pool to sit in the sun.  And then a nap of course!  Because this was the last day in Vegas, and also because I can't seem to pack properly, I had begun to ration my clean undies.  I had to nap commando because I couldn't waste a pair. (Another thing I didn't tell Muffy. Until now I guess. Sorry Muff!)

After napping we grabbed a quick bite at the food court and got ready to go to the show. This night we were seeing...

Cirque du Soleil's "Mystere"!

It was such a great show!  The only act I didn't like was the trapeze one. For some reason it just didn't seem that difficult. (I'm not saying I could do it, but someone else in the audience for sure.) After the show it was about 10pm and we decided to find somewhere to have a drink. Since the show was in Treasure Island, we ended up in one of their bars -- Gillies.  It's a really Western-themed place, complete with a line-dance floor, waitresses in bikinis and chaps, and....

A MECHANICAL BULL!!

Since 4 out of 6 of our group ride horses, there was no way that someone wasn't going on it.  Because it was chilly, everyone wore leggings under their dresses -- everyone but me.  (I was in a maxi dress so I didn't think my legs would be cold.)  Up they went one after the other.  First Lulu, then Didi, Gigi, Muffy, and Cece.  I didn't want to be the only person not to ride the bull, but I was in a dress!  What was I to do?

Well, I decided I'd get a picture of me sitting on the bull, side-saddle, just for a joke.  I had a hard time wrangling my long dress and hopping on the bull, which for some reason was 'parked' at a really steep angle and I kept sliding down its back sideways...

Eventually my struggles comedy act drew a crowd and I was starting to feel embarrassed so I just  threw my leg over and thought 'to hell with it.' I was just in the middle of telling Gigi to take my picture when the damn thing started shaking! The operator thought it would be hilarious to start it without telling me.  At first it was like sitting on a paint mixer, which made me kind of nauseous...

But when the operator started making it move like a normal bull -- a bucking motion I guess -- it ended up being kind of fun! Some middle-aged women with really big, bleached hair started cheering me on, and laughing it up -- "Look at that girl in her fancy dress!  Hang on girl!  You can do it!"

And then the damn bull lunged forward, throwing my ass in the air...

Then when I couldn't hold on any longer, I flew forward and landed on my face.

(Again with my ass in the air.)

The whole experience was such a rush.  I would do it again in a minute!  But, you know, not in a floor-length dress.  And with a decent bra next time.  (I'm surprised my jiggling self isn't all over the web, considering how many cameras I saw held up.) My next stop was straight to the gift shop to buy a commemorative shot glass, so I'll always remember the time I shook like a Polaroid picture in front of a crowd.

So that was Vegas!  I can't wait for my next vacation.  A big hug goes out to my travel girls Lulu, Didi, Gigi, Cece and Muffy for making the trip so memorable.  (And especially Muffy for lying when I asked her if my snoring kept her awake.)

Here's to more travel adventures in the future!

  1. You should really take "e-dating" out of your blog title... It's really all about your adventures... Not just in e-dating. You're my inspiration for me to start blogging too!
